US & Puerto Rico Box Office Report

Box Office is a tricky thing. Experts have deemed the 31 million a Christmas Carol took in this weekend as a slight disappointment. Yet these numbers rank as director Robert Zemeckis best opening weekend ever. This is a bit of a puzzle considering this is the man behind the Back to The Future trilogy, Romancing the Stone, Who Framed Roger Rabbitt and Forest Gump. The analysts are predicting a long run for this Jim Carrey vehicle. Coming in at second place was MJ’s This is It which ranked up 14 million in ticket sales. The international box office for this film has been a lot healthier and its release has been extended until Thanksgiving. George Clooney and The Men Who Stare at Goats come in third with a better than expected 13.3 million. The Fourth Kind lived up to its name coming in on fourth place with about 12 million and Paranormal Activity rounded out the top five. The only real dud was Cameron Diaz’s The Box which only managed to scare up 6.7 million in ticket sales. For the rest of the top ten click here Box Office Chart
