The Real Oscar Crystal Ball
With so many awards, film experts and lists why is the Producers Guild List for the 10 best films of the year the real crystal ball for predicting the Oscar Nominations? Because the guild is made of one of the largest branch of voting members of the Academy (the largest is the Actor’s Branch). So take a very good look to the list below because these may very well be the Best Picture nominees of 2009

While I’m glad that films like Up, Star Treck and District 9 are getting the recognition they deserve, I’m dissappointed that 500 Days of Summer and Where The Wild Things are did not make the cut. And while we’re at it, what the hell is An Education doing on this list? It features great performances, particularly by Alfred Molina, but it falls apart in the third act.
So come on! Snd off and tell me which ones do you agree on and which one would you change.

Well my dear friend I have to disagree with you. Sometimes I think you just didn’t get the point behind “An Education”, or maybe you are just giving a “recurring diagnosis” to recently released good movies by saying that “they just fall apart during the 3rd act” (e.g. “An Education”, “Up in the Air”, and most recently “Precious”). Either one, you couldn’t be more wrong. But anyway, although I’m most willing to further discuss this, I realize that this is not the theme, so I’m going to stick to Oscar predictions matters. So far I consider 5 movies to be locked in the Best Picture race: “Avatar”, “Hurt Locker” (frontrunner), “Inglorious Basterds”, “Precious”, and “Up in the Air”. Close to be locked I think we have “An Education” and “Invictus”, so that give us 7 of the ones mentioned here, leaving the other 3 spots open for the race. I particularly don’t consider “Up” being a safe bet, since “Fantastic Mr. Fox” has stolen most of the spotlight recently. But if the academy finally decides to include an animated feature in the Best Picture scenario, it’ll only be fair for “Up” to come up with the nomination. The other 2 movies mentioned here, “Star Trek” and the overrated “District 9” are out like Robbie Alomar was from the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. That’s because I still think that another UK friendly movie like “The Last Station” will be making the final cut; after all that kind of vote have worked miracles in the recent past (e.g. “Atonement” and “The Reader”). And speaking of “The Reader” it is more than obvious that you’re not totally out when you have the Weinstein Company watching your back, so don’t count out “Nine”… at least not now. I have not counted out “(500) Days of Summer” either, but even I have to admit that is just because it is my favorite movie from the last year. I’ll also be not surprised if “A Serious Man” makes the cut.

Estoy muy sorprendida con lo certero que fuiste con las predicciones para los Golden Globes. Las “pegaste” todas! Y, de hecho, estoy de acuerdo contigo en lo que a (500) Days.. se refiere, al igual que Stanley Tucci y que la nominación de Julia Roberts sobraba. Te felicito!

Buen Dia!
Tengo que escribir mi opinion por que en realidad si el “Cinefilo Boricua” se atreve por que no yo?. Para empezar este ano va a hacer bien interesante por que al ser 10 las peliculas escogidas podria abrir muchas puertas a otras peliculas que ni siquiera se han mensionado mucho durante los ultimos meses, al igual que pudiese representar una sorpresa la noche del Oscar al los miembros votar entre 10 peliculas se podrian dividir los votos y resultar ganadora una que no se espera por ejemplo : Up In The Air”.
Mis 10 son las siguientes:

La cual considero que debe ganar ya que pues tiene varios factores a su favor como que va a ser la pelicula mas taquillera de todos los tiempos esto significa $ para el mundo del cine ademas de que ha utilizado nuevas tecnicas de efectos especiales, marca nuevamente una nueva era en efectos al igual que lo hizo con terminator 2. tendra las mas nominaciones este ano.
2- Hurt Locker
Sera buena pero basta ya de peliculas de guerra y dramas ganando el Oscar, ya es tiempo de que una Sci-fi gane ademas creo que es mas por que la dirigio una mujer que por otra cosa. Ha ganado varios premios de mejor pelicula y director.
3-Inglorious Basterds
Tarantino se reinvindica con esta pelicula y su libreto despues del fracaso que hizo con robert rodriguez. ha ganado varios premios de mejor libreto, ademas de su actor de reparto y varias nominaciones tecnicas.
4- Up in the Air:
no se que le ven a esta pelicula, lenta y no va a ningun lado, se termina y que paso?… nada! Creo que george Clooney esta over-rated como actor. todas las actuaciones tienden a ser iguales y el en hollywood a hecho lo que oprah en la television, venderse bien, no me estranaria que algun dia le de con tirarse a la politica. Ha ganado varios premios de mejor pelicula, actor y libreto.
5-Precious
va a ser nominada, tipo de pelicula que le gusta a los miembros de la academia.
ha ganado casi todos los premios de mejor actriz de reparto y su libreto ha sido nominado varias veces.

buenisima tan simple pero a la vez tan profunda

seria la sorpresa pues es la comedia mas taquillera, buen libreto y ha sido nominada varias veces.
