Puerto Rico Box Office Update
Después de las ventas de las taquillas del domingo, se tabularon los números y el “Top Five” de las películas mas taquilleras en Puerto Ricono es tan diferente al de Estados Unidos.
1. A Christmas Carol- su triunfo se debe a ser la oferta familar más nueva y tener el atractivo del 3D (junto con el costo más caro de la taquilla)
2. This Is It- Este filme se nutre de profesionales adultos que no siempre tienen tiempo de ir en la primera semana de estreno. La película debe continuar con una vida saludable en la taquilla hasta que Sony la retire en la semana de Acción de Gracias.
3.Paranormal Activity- La publicidad, las reacciones divididas y el género de horror mantuvieron este filme vivo entre la demográfica de los jóvenes adultos.
4.The Fourth Kind- La falta de publicidad pudo haber limitado el impacto de este estreno o quizas está destinado a ocupar la CUARTA posición donde quiera que estrena.
5. Law Abiding Citizen- Probando que la piratería no mata filmes que no son blockbusters , este filme de suspenso continua recaudando.
La situación es un poco más severa con los estrenos limitados de la semana. Aquellos que batallaron para que Where The Wild Things Are, aparentemente todavía no se han dado la tarea de ir a verla al cine. El filme colocó en la posición número 10, con solo tres salas de exhibición.
Si el impactode los Wild Things fue limitado PARECE MENTIRA que Miente haya quedado en la posición número 14. Por respeto a los productores de este filme no voy a dar los detalles de los números, pero esta posición indica que la mayoría de los cinéfilos puertorriqueños ignoraron el estreno de este ADMIRABLE FILME.
Si tiene curiosidad por verla, ES TRASCENDENTAL QUE VAYA EN LA PRIMERA SEMANA DE ESTRENO. Aunque parezca melodramático señalarlo el futuro de nuestro cine nacional depende de esto.

The problem is that us PR film lovers have been burned one too many times when trying to support the local industry. Even though there are exceptions and some films are quite good, the bad ones leave such a bitter taste that it really makes you skeptical when the next one comes out.

I agree, but at this point we have to take the bitter pills with the good films if we want to have a national film industry. Fortunatly Miente is not a bitter pill, it’s actually worthwhile.

Then again, a mediocre film like Law Abiding Citizen is still selling like hot cakes. Some genres just appeal to our idiosyncratic nature; action movies being a good example. I mean, I obviously don’t have the specifics, but I’m pretty sure that even a sub-par effort like The Marine probably made big bucks in PR. Miente seems like an interesting movie; I’ll try my best to see it by Wednesday. Though (and this doesn’t have absolutely anything to do with the quality of the feature itself) the soundtrack – not to be confused with the score – is downright awful, filled with our ever increasingly neo-grunge rock scene, which mainly consists of riff-induced, uninspired power chord anthems. If Miente keeps doing poorly, I hope it finds distribution elsewhere.
