While our local cinema has been flooded by teens in flocking to see love triangles with vampires and werewolves and the adults looking at the end of the world in 2012, the one movie that’s flying completely under the radar is the one that seems poised to garner major recognition when the Oscar nominations are announced in January. Take a look at this trailer which manages to sell the emotional power of the movie without making it seen depressing.

Precious, which is not scheduled on Caribbean Cinema’s future release dates, will likely be recognize in the Best Picture category, Best Actress, Best Script Adaptation, Best Direction and Best Supporting Actress. Regarding that last category everybody has been talking up Monique, the comedian turned dramatic actress who plays the title characters abusive mother. This is the type of stuff the Academy loves. A movie about an important subject (child abuse), an actor taking on a major physical transformation (Nicole and Charlize anyone?) and a performer coming back on top after major disaster-which in Carey’s case that would be Glitter. But I guess the major obstacle for this to happen is the fact that it’s MARIAH CAREY. But take a look at this!
