2012-Critical beat down begins!
A critical disaster?
It never fails to surprise me how some fellow film critics think their job gives the right to be snooty. Its not about how much vile you can print. Its about how your informed opinion might help out a moviegoer in making their selection. Anyhow, it’s hard for me to believe that I’m writing something where I’m defending a movie like 2012-but there you go that’s my inner snob talking. Anyways take a look at Variety review
It won’t be the first of negative reviews and it has nothing to do with any flaws (which there are some) the movie has. Within certain circles it might seem cool to look down on escapism as entertainment but for those who know a thing or two about film history, this film is steeped deeply in its tradition.
Like I mentioned before, if it weren’t for the CGI and the titular date this is the type of movie that represents Hollywoods sensibilities in the thirties, widely known as the golden age of cinema. To the modern eye, this might qualify as a big hunk of cheese. But then again there is something comforting about a movie that offers an escape to a world that bares no resemblance to our own and takes it’s characters seriously. Of course during the last reel Emerich can help himself and over does it, but that’s par for the course with him. (I’m still traumatized by the damn digital wolves in The Day After Tomorrow)
So sorry no go, this film can not be thrown in the same trash bin as Transformers 2. It’s no classic but it’s entertaining fun. What could possibly be wrong with that?

Buen dia!
Es la primera vez que entro a su pagina. Usualmete los jueves le escucho en Fidelity en las mananas. Soy super fanatico del cine y veo las peliculas para disfrutarlas y ver mas alla de ellas tecnicamente hablando. Cuando llega la epoca de fin de ano es que disfruto mas pues llegan las peliculas de Oscares como uno le dice. Ahora bien…
2012, Si me dejo llevar por los cortos, no la veo. si me dejo llevar por el director , tampoco. Pues despues de las barbaridades tales como Independence Day, Godzilla y The Day After Tomorrow que mas puedo esperar. Le pregunto, le debo dar una ultima oportunidad a este director viendo 2012 o puedo esperar a que la pasen por HBO?
Y dicho sea de paso pienso que Transformers 2 es la peor pelicula del 2009. Siguiendole Wolverine y la super mega over-rated Paranormal Activity.

Pues yo como tu, jamás he sido fanático de Roland Emerich. Pero creo que esta me gusto pq estoy comparandola con la atrocidad que fue Transformers 2. El filme definitivamente tiene alguno de los mismos cliches de sus filmes anteriores, pero este es superior. Creo que si vas a invertir tiempo en verla debes hacerlo en el cine. En HBO la grandeza del espectáculo- que es el mejor atributo del filme – pierde su impacto. Comparto tu opinión de todos los filmes que mencionaste así que creo que te puedes arriesgar en verla. Mañana se publica aqui y en el periodico mi reseña a ver si eso te ayuda un poco más a tomar tu decisión.
Lo último que te puedo decir es que vi la película,que dura casi tres horas, despues de 8 horas en un avión y no me molestó.
