Greengrass Says No To Bourne, Damon takes a Lover

In another bit of Hollywood Shuffle, the industry got some news updates regarding Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon that was not related to their upcoming thriller Greenzone. First off EW On Line reported this afternoon that Greengrass, who first directed Damon in the Bourne Supremacy and re-teamed for the Bourne Ultimatum, has confirmed that he will not be directing Jason Bourne’s next on screen adventure by issuing the following statement:

“You won’t find a more devoted supporter of the Bourne franchise than me. I will always be grateful to have been the caretaker to Jason Bourne over the course of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I’m very proud of those films and feel they express everything I most passionately believe about the possibility of making quality movies in the mainstream. My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge. There’s been no disagreement with Universal Pictures. The opportunity to work with the Bourne family again is a difficult thing to pass up, but we have discussed this together and they have been incredibly understanding and supportive. I’ve been lucky enough to have made four films for Universal, and our relationship continues. Jason Bourne existed before me and will continue, and I hope to remain involved in some capacity as the series moves on.”

So you know what this means?! On the next Bourne film we will get to actually see how the super spy fights! Although I think the Bourne sequels are solid, I really dug the last one, one thing that annoyed the hell out of me was Greengrass shaky cam-particularly during the fight sequences. I for one like to see CLEARLY how the hero kicks ass. I do not need to feel like I’m in the room while it happens.

Meanwhile the star of the franchise has decided that the next thing he is doing is having an on screen affair with Michael Douglas. Today Variety reported that the latest script version of Liberace has met with approval and that the Steven Soderbergh production that will feature Douglas as the title character and Damon as his lover will start shooting during the spring of 2010.

Matt Damon Update

Matt Damon's busy

Matt Damon's busy

The last time I talked to Matt Damon( two months ago at the Toronto FilmFestival) I asked him if he was interested in following his friend Ben Affleck’s steps into the director’s chair. He assured me “that will inevitable, but for now I’m grateful to have my plate full as an actor and getting to collaborate with the best directors out there.”
He wasn’t kidding. He’s got the upcoming Invictus with Clint Eastwood. A reteaming with Paul Greengrass (Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum) which you can take a look at here

After this he has a Liberace project set up with Steven Soderberg and today Variety announced that he would be working with Eastwood again in Hereafter a supernatural drama that will film in Paris, London, Hawaii and San Francisco and is slated for release in December 2010.
Before all this comes to fruition, lets hope Damon has to pencil in a trip to the Kodak Theater. He is still a front runner in the Best Actor category for his hilariously scary performance in The Informant!

A Double Nomination For Matt Damon!
