Can you be married to a Golden Globe Winner and not know what a Golden Globe is? If my brief London encounter with Guy Ritchie is evidence of anything is that this strange thing can actually happen. How come? Well I’ll tell you all about it!

I was waiting to finish my day of TV interviews for the Sherlock Holmes junkett in London when the hallway of the hotel came alive with unsuspected energy. Susan Downey, producer and wife to the star of Sherlock Holmes, was on her phone with a big smile on her face. She had just found out her hubby got nominated fot Best Actor for Holmes. Next came Joel Silver who almost bounce off the walls when he found out but it only took him 10 seconds to ask “Did we get anything else?” Next came the honoree himself who seemed truly surprised and happy to get the news.
10 minute into this weird hollywood moment, Guy Ritchie came to begin his second rounds of interviews, me being the first one after lunch, he didn’t pay much attention to the fuss in the hallway and with a bored stroll walk into his room.

Five minutes later I was sitting across from him and before we starter to roll I told him how weird it was to be with all of them when they found out about Robert’s nomination. And then with a straight face the man who fathered Madonna’s only biological son asked me “Is that a big deal?” I did a tripple take and then said “The nomination?”
“Yes, is it good for the film?” I scanned his eyes for a trace of sarcasm, irony or any indication that he was pulling my leg. I found none, I cleared my throat and said (TAKE NOTE MEMBERS OF THE HOLLYWOOD FOREIGN PRESS)”Well it means your film will get more positive attention”. Ritchie pondered this for a second, looked at his assistance who smiled, shrugged his shoulders and began the interview.

Is this some sort of arrogant ignorance you may be asking? To tell you the truth I don’t think so. The day before Ritchie admitted in a press conference that this film was his first experience with anything Hollywood. It just may be that all those years making independent movies in England kept him busy enough to have no idea what kind of spin the Golden Globes puts on the winter movie season. What do you thin? Think he was putting me on?

While I wait for your comments I’ll take time to imagine a conversation that will never happen.

Ritchie takes out his mobile and call his ex “Hey, Honey! I finally know what that shiny thing that said Best Actress Evita is! Yeah! You know you really shouldn’t be using it for a doorstop.”
